Joining MGM, he won attention for his sole dramatic role in the war drama, Bataan (1942), but gave up films for touring with his successful band. The marriage was subject to the road most of the time and to Lucys movie career. When the couple came up with the idea for a television series, they fought to do it together to save their marriage.
